When should I get tested?
You should immediately get tested for COVID-19 if you are feeling any symptoms – regardless of your vaccination status. COVID-19 symptoms can feel like a common cold (including just “the sniffles”), seasonal allergies, or flu.
If you’ve been exposed to COVID-19, get tested as soon as possible. If you test negative, retest 5-7 days after your exposure date. Regardless of you have symptoms, test immediately with either a PCR or Antigen/Rapid test.
-
If you have symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, get tested immediately for any COVID-19 symptoms. If you have a negative antigen/rapid test, take another test 24-48 hours later to confirm.
-
If you go to a high-risk event, test before the event and 3-5 days after.
-
If you travel, test before travel and 3-5 days after. Regardless of vaccination status, anyone entering or re-entering in California should test 3-5 days after arrival
-
If you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 3 months and have had no new symptoms since your recent exposure, you do not need to get tested.
